Masanobu MINAMI Solo Exhibition "HOKORA"

"The theme of this exhibition is "HOKORA". HOKORA have always been a part of people's daily lives, and they are places that purify and exorcise the thoughts and wishes of those who visit them, and they also serve as a place of refuge that reflects a new spirit in the heart. While thinking about the invisible things that can be seen beyond the barrier of the "shrine," this time I attempted to incorporate metal oxidation, which is difficult to control, into my work. Many metals oxidize and produce unique colors (oxides and rust) due to chemical changes. Since ancient times, the world of metal crafts has used oxidation to both protect and add beauty to surfaces. Oxidation, which occurs under various conditions such as exposing metal to a flame to raise its temperature or reacting with a reagent, is like a stain that hides the original color of the metal. Beautiful tones and expressions emerge as the process progresses. The mysterious charm of the dramatic transformation of the seemingly uniform color of metal must have aroused the inquisitive spirit of our predecessors.
